I started waterskiing at four years old with my family on Trout Lake in North Bay, Ontario and quickly became passionate about the sport. When I was five years old, my brother went away for a week for coaching so I decided that I wanted to learn how to drop a ski and get out of the water on one ski before he came home. I was successful and I began competing in slalom at age six and did quite well considering I had no formal coaching.
At my first Ontario Provincial Championship, I placed first in my age division which sparked my drive to want to excel in this sport and compete at a higher level. Since then I have been the Canadian National Champion on six different occasions and am the current U17 and U21 National record holder. I am currently ranked 1st in the World in U21 Slalom and 4th on the IWWF Dynamic List for Open Women. In 2017, I won both the Junior World Waterski Championships in San Bernardo, Chile and the Junior Masters Championship in Pine Mountain, Georgia. I also placed 4th at the Swiss Pro Slalom and I made my first Pro podium, placing 3rd at the Canadian Open. The biggest highlight of my career came in the fall of 2017 when I placed 3rd at the Open World Championships in Paris, France.
In the 2018 season, I tied the U21 Women’s Slalom Canadian National Record with a score of 4 @ 10.75 m. At the Swiss Pro Slalom, I again placed 4th. My Professional season continued with a 5th place finish at the Canadian Open, a 4th place finish at the Malibu Open and 5th at the California Pro-Am. I won the Hilltop Pro-Am tournament in Seattle Washington for the 2nd consecutive year. I also placed 2nd in both Elite and Open Nationals behind World Champion Whitney McClintock. My season closed with my debut in the American Collegiate skiing scene where I won the Division 1 National Slalom Title helping the University of Louisiana place 2nd in the team event in a close battle with the ULM.
My 2019 season kicked off with a 4th place finish at the Swiss Pro Slalom followed by another 4th place at the Open Masters. At my last pro competition, the Lake 38 Pro-Am, I tied the score for third place but due to seeding I finished with another 4th place finish. The top three ranked Women in the World finished ahead of me in all three pro events. My most recent accomplishment was placing first in the U21 World Waterski Championships. In the preliminary round, I ran 5 buoys @ 10.75m setting a new pending World Championship Record and a U21 National Record. My scores and world rankings have continued to improve over the years and have qualified me for many Pro tournaments this season as well as the Open World Championships to be held in Malaysia in August.
This July, I will come home to North Bay and train on Trout Lake to prepare for the World Championships. When I am at home, my father drives the boat while my mother video tapes my skiing. My father and I then analyze my skiing. I am at a serious disadvantage to my competitors because most them live and train in Florida on a year- round basis. To stay competitive, I require frequent trips Florida on to receive world class coaching, accurate boat driving and proper training conditions. Training with high level coaches is very costly. Each two-week training session costs over two thousand dollars not including the flights to Florida. Prior to the Malaysia Open worlds, I will try to return to Florida for some high-level coaching to help me ski my best in that tournament.
